All I have to say is... BGW WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?

"Too scary for your family?
Visit us during the day to experience family-friendly rides, Sesame Street Forest of Fun and Land of the Dragons children’s areas, and up-close animal encounters perfect for fall fun. Once the clock strikes 6 p.m., the Howl-O-Scream scares begin which may not be suitable for young children."

Their god doesn't own them anymore. But KD got purchased by Jesus in 2006.

I'm skipping all of this bunny trail nonsense to say. I bought a Platinum Cedar Fair pass. I see great things ahead for the Cedar Fair parks, I can't say that I see great things for the SEAS parks.

Waking up fresh every mornin'; Openin' up for you; Waitin' for your laughter; With so much new to do! Busch—Gardens! Busch—Gardens! Come to Busch Gardens and come to life! Come to Busch Gardens and come—to life!

I like both parks for their unique points, but I could give the (slight) edge to Kings Dominion because of the great changes they are doing for the 40th.

I've been reluctant to post in this thread due to the fact that I hadn't been to BGW since the late 90's until this season. I've now visited BGW 7 times this season already and KD 5 times so here goes. (Half of these trips to each have been with my 3 yr old daughter which is a different kind of park experience) There is a slight bias toward KD here because I first visited in the late 70's and never really stopped. I'll try to give my comparison of both parks for what they are today instead of what they 'mean' to me or what they 'were'.
Food quality---BGW
Food prices----BGW
Drinks/cups----Tie
Parking--------KD
Front Gate-----KD
Coasters-------KD
shows----------BGW
Ride Ops'------BGW
Games staff----KD
Flat rides-----KD
Family rides---KD (Riding with 3 yr old)
In-Park Trans--BGW (Duh)
Kids Area------KD (Nod to BG for having 2, but 2 smalls doesn't beat the 1. Planet Snoopy blows FOF away.)
Eatery Atmosphere-BGW
Other staff----Tie
Log Flumes-----BGW
Raft rides-----KD
Restrooms------BGW
Crowd Management--KD (Especially parking. BGW's system is just annoying)
Landscaping-----BGW
Theming---------BGW
Dark rides------BGW
Empty Park fun--KD
Full park fun---BGW
ABC policies----BGW
Merchandise-----BGW (Clear win)
Overall atmosphere--BGW
Overall fun-----KD (In-park waterpark gives the nudge here for me)
Overall cleanliness---Tie (KD has really stepped this up)
Winner---- You'll have to add them up to get MY overall scoreSmiling

Both of these parks are BIG fun for my family and I. They are both fantastic in just the right places. Where one of them lacks, the other compliments it. I am proud to have both of these parks and regardless of my added results above, they are both winners.

I definitely agree with everything on there. But KD really has improved in overall cleanliness. There used to be cigarette butts and plates/utensils just lying around. Now it is rare that you see that. Although my home park is KD, I think BGW is better because all of those elements combine I'd give KD an 83 and BGW an 88. (out of 100) The reason for this is because of the theming at BGW. It is really amazing how much work has been put into the park, and how many partnerships they have with companies that build it all. KD is a thrill excellence but BGW is amazing. Although they are struggling a bit right now, I still think it has the edge right now.

So I posted this thread quite some time ago. I thought I'd make an update on my thoughts now as opposed to two years ago. Here we go:

Water Rides: This is a tough one. In this thread, I gave the edge to KD. Here's the thing: I've really come to enjoy Le Scoot. It's honestly one of my favorite rides at Busch Gardens, and that's really weird since it's a log flume. Me enjoying Le Scoot caused me to appreciate Shenandoah Lumber Company more. I hate Roman Rapids and White Water Canyon is a lot of fun. No competition there; however, Busch does have Pompeii, and KD has no such ride. I have to call this one a draw - both parks have good water rides.

Dark Rides: Europe in the Air sucks. Period. Boo Blasters is rather fun, but not fun enough for me to say it's better than Darkastle. That's ridiculous. I'll stick with my original decision and give it to Busch.

Roller Coasters: I love the collection of coasters at Busch, but they just don't have enough of a variety for me to give them the edge. On a typical trip to Busch, I'll find myself re-riding coasters by mid-day. I could go an entire day at KD, not re-ride a coaster, and still be entertained. I'm definitely still giving this one to Kings Dominion.

Food: This could change very soon, but because KD's food is so much more expensive, I'm still giving it to Busch.

Flats: No surprises here. Busch's flat collection is sad. KD has a number of memorable flats: Drop Tower, The Crypt, Flying Eagles, and Windseeker just to name a few. Absolutely sticking with Kings Dominion.

Kids Area: Here's where stuff gets mixed up. When I wrote this post in 2012, I didn't particularly enjoy either area. KD's was very run down and forgettable, and Sesame Street Forest of Fun was hot and miserable. I gave it to Busch because I love Land of the Dragons (in fact, I still do). KD's children's area renovation in 2013 made planet snoopy one of the best kids areas I've been in. Hands down, no question, goes to KD.

Shows: BGW.

I didn't include animals because KD doesn't have them & I didn't include water parks because Busch's is a separate park.

It's a tie of 3 1/2 each.

I must say, this comparison of these two parks is much better than my own, mainly because, as you said, you visit both of these parks frequently, while I only visit BGW frequently, and therefore have not had a chance to experience all the different features of KD. Very well done!

Thanks Ludwig! There's a bunch more categories that I could've covered, but I tried to keep it basic.
