Not really news since Ed Hart announced in late June that he had planned on re-opening this coaster in 2016.

The real question is what kind of work will be done to it. With almost $5 million allocated for it that pretty much screams iron horse treatment.

I think you are exactly right Unagi, there is no way that just a retracking and support repair would cost that much. The park even said that Thunder Run's retracking cost under $1 million so I would estimate that a similar job on Twisted Twins would cost maybe just over $2 million since it is two coasters and a longer coaster. $4,666,000 sounds like Iron Horse to me! Assuming its true this could put Kentucky Kingdom on the coaster map.

That amount of money could purchase another good sized wood coaster. Kentucky Rumbler at Beech Bend cost $4 million so that will give you an idea of how big a coaster they can add.

The new steel coaster opening next year might do that before the Twins in 2016.

I'm hoping so, but the new steel coaster seems kind of inexpensive to me. I am still having a very very hard time figuring out what they can get for that little amount of money in a steel coaster. It seems to me you can get a lot more coaster for your money with wood, at least in up-front cost, but they it does have a much more expensive maintenance life compared to steel. Its been said before that Ed Hart has a love affair with B&M but it seems impossible to get a new B&M for that price. I know that the thought of Led Zeppelin/Time Machine at Hard Rock has been tossed around, but it sounds like that coaster is bound for China, I hope that rumor is not true.

For fair note Chang cost about $9 million to be shipped and built at Great Adventure. That includes footers, repainting at the shop, and the few pieces of track sent to Great America ahead of time.

Although rumors have been pointing at an S&S El Loco due to the ride being stated to replace Greezed Lightnin'.

In a video on the park's facebook they said that the new coaster would take the place of Greezed Lightning and the parks former wild mouse Road Runner Express

Since SkyCoaster Inc. took back KK's SkyCoaster after the park closed I think its safe to say that the new ride will take most of this foot print:

From what I've been hearing this new coaster will not be an S&S and definitely not a B&M.

As far as Time Machine/Led Zeppelin goes, it wouldn't fit in that footprint where Greezed Lightning and Road Runner Express previously resided.

Led Zeppelin for sale

So now at this point any rumors about Led Zepp moving to Kentucky Kingdom can kindly be silenced, good night Saigon.

Is this park worth going to? I'm debating between this and BGW for Summer 2014.

In 2014? No.

I honestly don't see how it would be worth a trip till at least 2016 when the Twins reopen. Till then, they have a very, very lackluster collection.

I wouldn't go to Kentucky Kingdom alone. If you're gonna do a regional trip there where you can also hit Holiday World, Beech Bend, Kings Island, Indiana Beach and maybe the Six Flags in St. Louis and Silver Dollar City then you can stop in for a few hours. It's definitely not an all day park.

There's a close-up of the front Lightning Run car at IAAPA.

I'm not as interested as I was before after seeing those awful leg restraints attached to the lap bar!
