Unviversal Studio Orlando Resort Wrote:Today, we are announcing a project of incredible vision – bringing to life an entirely new water theme park experience for our guests. This addition will join Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure as our destination’s third highly-immersive park and will be called Universal’s Volcano Bay.

This is one of the most exciting projects we have had the opportunity to be part of because Volcano Bay will completely redefine the water park experience for our guests.

The park will feel as if it is set in picture-perfect tropical islands, formed by a massive volcano – and it will have something for every member of the family. It will feature radically-innovative attractions, peaceful moments of relaxation and an experience that we hope will change the way guests think about water theme parks.

We’ve already broken ground on Volcano Bay, just south of Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Construction will move quickly, and the park will open in 2017.

Volcano Bay shows how Universal Orlando is continuing to evolve at an unprecedented rate that will not slow anytime soon. Since 2010, we’ve launched more than 18 remarkable experiences across the destination – from new attractions and theme park lands to new on-site hotels and restaurants. Our team will continue delivering new guest experiences that push the limits of theme park entertainment.

More details on Volcano Bay will be announced at a later date. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook or via email for the latest news.

They are going to have to build a second floor soon
While I never got the chance to visit Wet n' Wild, I'm sure Universal will pull this one off splendidly, just like Diagon Alley.

And Zimmy, yeah, with all the expanding they want to do they might as well add a story or two.
They are claiming they discovered a way to banish ride lines. What do you think it could be? SOmething like Disney's fast pass +? Im intrigued.
Tickets for Volcano Bay go on sale 15 November.  More importantly, they have announced how they plan to eliminate lines at the rides in the park.  They seem to be introducing some kind of MagicBand/Interactive Wand hybrid.  I'm really intrigued.

Excerpt from the post:

Quote:TapuTapu Wearable

One of the main goals for Universal’s Volcano Bay was to eliminate long lines and hassles so you can focus more on having fun. And with the TapuTapu wearable, you’ll be able to do just that.

When you arrive to the park, you’ll receive a TapuTapu wearable (at no extra charge) that will allow you to do the following with a simple tap:

Virtual Lines

You will be able to virtually wait in line while you play in other areas of the park. The wearable will alert you when it’s time for you to ride so you can head to the attraction.

Tap to Play

Volcano Bay features various “tap-to-play” experiences– all designed exclusively by Universal’s award-winning creative team. With just a tap of TapuTapu, you’ll be able to trigger special effects throughout the park. You can control streams of water spurting from whales in Tot Tiki Reef, shoot water cannons at other guests snaking down Kopiko Wai Winding River and illuminate images in the volcano’s hidden caves.
I really hope the TapuTapu is successful. I would love to see this feature at other parks.
Just took these construction pics from the car going down I-4 West.

This could be really interesting as the same weekend it's rumored that Pandora will open. I'm curious to see how this will affect the two openings as both are definitely in the upper echelon of anticipated attractions as Avatar was announced years ago and the addition of Volcano Bay continues to solidify Universal as competition to Disney.

The only effect is that these two places will be horribly packed and at capacity even if they open together. For Volcano Bay, there just isn't enough water parks in the Orlando area especially during the heavy Summer tourist season between mid May and early August. For Avatar land, it's a new Disney attraction so that's gonna bring in a deluge of crowds by default.
May 25th is also the day before all the schools in the area end for summer vacation. So Volcano Bay(and avatar land) will be even more packed!
Grand opening will be on livestream tomorrow morning!

WCUSA could use one of these!
